Drink the Kool-Aid

So as this is a blog, in the spirit of blogging I’ll include some completely selfindulgent journalistic entries that I wouldn’t think anyone to ever publish. And so I’ll publish it myself.

Gaah – there is some serious crap out there in the blogosphere that is supposed to amount to people’s work. I guess, if there is a market for reading journal entries this would be it – at least it’s free. You don’t have to pay to read what I am putting down here, and that is a good thing. I guess. Goes with the dogma of those free punk rock ‘zines from back in the 80’s and 90’s. Which is one of my biggest inspirations to starting a blog.

The other is my unemployed friend Mark who is quite the writer. He tells me its good to have a blog like this showcasing some of my work, in case any prospective publishers are looking at my stuff.

I feel like the last person in the world with a blog. Like it’s a dying fad that I’m jumping on. I remember 10 years ago it was all the rage. Or so it seemed. And that happened to coincide with when I was a student at San Jose State. So maybe that says something right there. I can hope that blogging is still relevant and newsworthy in the academic community.

But that goes to the part of the writer, or blogger, who asks himself – who is my audience? Well, right now I think I have an audience of 1. Me. I don’t think I have any “followers” yet. (I really hate that term, followers. Makes me feel like a Jim Jones-type cult leader – read my stuff, drink the Kool-Aid.)

Jump in, the water’s fine down here …
